After Four Months In Prison: Former Trump Advisor Steve Bannon Released

Steve Bannon released from prison after serving four months for defying a subpoena.

Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon was released today after serving four months in prison for defying a subpoena in the investigation into the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

“Bannon left the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut,” said a spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, reported CBS.

Bannon plans to hold a press conference later today in Manhattan, his representatives said. He is also expected to resume his podcast today.

Bannon arrived in prison on July 1, after the Supreme Court rejected his bid to suspend his prison sentence while he appealed the verdict.

In 2022, a jury found Bannon guilty on two counts of contempt of Congress—one for refusing to testify before the House committee investigating the January 6 events and the other for refusing to hand over documents related to his involvement in Trump’s efforts to overturn the election results after losing to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race.

When he began serving his sentence in July, Bannon called himself a “political prisoner.”
