In an interview with the New York Post, newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is prepared for peace, and Putin must also be ready for it, given his losses.
“Zelensky wants peace. This is new. We haven’t discussed the details yet. He believes it’s time, and Putin needs to think it’s time because he has lost. When you lose 700,000 people, it means it’s time because the conflict won’t end until peace is achieved,” Trump said to the New York Post.
During the interview with the New York newspaper, which detailed his conversations with world leaders during his first foreign trip after winning the presidential election, Trump also revealed that he discussed NATO with Macron in Paris over the weekend, reiterating his belief that the alliance should “pay its fair share.”
“I told them that NATO is good as long as everyone pays their bills. They need to pay their bills because, you know, when I joined NATO, no one was paying, and then they started paying after I joined. Macron agrees with me,” Trump said.
