Newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump announced today that he has appointed his loyal associate, former General Keith Kellogg, as Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia.
“He has been with me since the very beginning! Together, we will achieve peace through strength and make America and the world safe again,” Trump wrote in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Trump, who has been a vocal critic of the multi-billion-dollar U.S. aid to Ukraine, has promised to resolve the war between Kyiv and Moscow before he is sworn in for a new term in January. However, he has not elaborated on how he plans to achieve this.
Trump has appointed Kellogg as Assistant to the President and Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia.
Kellogg briefly led the National Security Council in the White House during Trump’s first term. He has been a longtime senior military advisor to Trump and also served as National Security Advisor to former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence.
The war in Ukraine will enter its third year in February.
