Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has suggested that the administration of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump might help end the ongoing war with Russia more quickly, according to Ukraine’s state news agency Ukrinform, as reported by Anadolu Agency.
In an interview with the public broadcaster “Suspilne,” Zelensky discussed the relationship between Ukraine and the USA, reflecting on past discussions with Trump about resolving the conflict that started in 2022.
“He listened to where we stand. I didn’t hear anything against our position,” Zelensky remarked.
When asked if Trump had requested Ukraine to enter negotiations with Russia, Zelensky responded:
“We are an independent nation. Throughout this war, both our people and I personally have negotiated with the United States, with Trump, with Biden, and with European leaders, proving that the ‘sit and listen’ rhetoric does not work with us.”
The Ukrainian President expressed his belief that under Trump’s leadership, “the war will end faster.”
“It’s crucial for us to achieve a just peace, so we don’t feel we’ve lost our best people to an imposed injustice. The war will end, but there’s no exact date. Certainly, with the policy the new White House team will pursue, the war will end quicker; that’s their approach, their promise to the public, and it’s very important to them,” Zelensky added.
Trump, who defeated Kamala Harris in the presidential election on November 5, has frequently questioned U.S. support for Kyiv, claiming he could resolve the conflict within a day if elected.
